From Issue: Volume XXII - Number 13
6/27/2014

The Los Angeles Area Fire Chiefs Association (LAAFCA), which represents the 31 Fire Departments in Los Angeles County, has endorsed Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell for Los Angeles County Sheriff in the November 4 election.

“The need for a strong working relationship between our local law enforcement and the fire service cannot be understated. Chief Jim McDonnell understands this and is the best person to provide the leadership needed to strengthen those relationships and play a key role in developing our collective path toward the future of public safety in Los Angeles County,” said Jim Frawley, president of LAAFCA.

“The partnership between local law enforcement and the fire service is of critical importance in delivering our core service to the communities we serve. The ability to work, collaboratively, to develop plans, programs and response profiles to key issues that face our region is of utmost importance in our mission to provide for public safety. That goal can only be facilitated through collaborative leadership and relationship building in the interest of developing long term mission objectives, Frawley said, “The Los Angeles County Sheriff plays a key partnership role in helping to develop our collective path forward in dealing with the ever present threats to the safety of our communities. The Los Angeles Area Fire Chiefs feel strongly that Chief Jim McDonnell is the right leader for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at this critical time.”

Frawley continued by stating “Chief McDonnell has an unmatched level of experience in leadership and collaboration in setting long term objectives that will serve the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and all key public safety stakeholders, in the region, well for many years to come. As sheriff, Chief McDonnell will continue to lead with integrity, transparency and in the spirit of moving the sheriff’s department forward to meet the needs of our communities and continue to strengthen the relationships needed to ensure our long term success.”

LAAFCA is comprised of fire chiefs and command level chief officers that oversee the daily management and operations of all fire service operations within Los Angeles County.
