Letters to Editor
From Issue: Volume XXII - Number 12
Recently Taylor Ramsey reiterated his disbelief in man-made global warming. He wrote “we should not depend on what only half of the U.S. population believes.” The April 2014 Scientific American says three of four believe.
Public opinion has nothing to do with scientific conclusions, only reactions to them. Only science can answer a scientific question like global warming. Half of the U.S. thinks that the earth is 6,000 years old. That has nothing to do with science.
The only significant statistic is that 97 percent of scientists believe global warming is man made. They determined that three percent were guilty of faulty science. The problem is settled: man made.
My sources: www.uctv, which includes over 500 lectures on global warming as part of the University of California’s streaming lecture series; Scientific American, the weekly research magazine; Nature; and The Union of Concerned Scientists. Ramsey never lists a source. No source, un-checkable, not science. His writing about global warming is as meaningless as Sarah Palin’s 6,000-year-old earth (the three percent guilty of faulty science).
