McDonnell Enters Race for Sheriff

Chief Jim McDonnell, who has headed the Long Beach Police Department since 2010 and served as the second in command in the Los Angeles Police Department, announced last week that he is running for Los Angeles County Sheriff in the June 3, 2014 election.

McDonnell is the immediate past president of the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs’ Association and served with the Los Angeles Police Department for 29 years, holding every rank in the department up to chief of staff. He also served on the Citizens’ Commission on Jail Violence, an independent blue ribbon panel that investigated and issued a report with recommendations to bring about lasting and meaningful changes within the Los Angeles County jails.

Last Friday that citizens’ commission unanimously endorsed McDonnell for LA County Sheriff at a press conference held outside the Los Angeles Hall of Administration.

McDonnell begins his candidacy with large, broad, bi-partisan support, including many of top local leaders in law enforcement:
