Doing the Right Thing
From Issue: Volume XXI - Number 20
Amen to [Taylor Ramsey’s Sept. 20] column on doing the “Right Thing.” You and I are part of perhaps the last generation of Americans who actually listened to and then acted upon the advice offered to us by our parents and grandparents.
I can vividly recall my grandmother advising me to become a man of “good character” when I was setting off to college in 1961. I asked her what she meant by “good character.” She looked down from her knitting, removed her reading glasses and looked at me with the clearest, most piercing blue eyes on the face of the earth. “A man of good character will always do the right thing.” she said, then added with the faintest hint of a smile, “Even when no one else is watching.”
