The Primetime Players present, “Love, Marriage and Whatever,” a musical production of mostly familiar songs (solos and group numbers). The shows are one hour long and the admission is always free; however, donations are always accepted and appreciated. The Senior Center shows are on Monday, Aug. 12, 1 p.m., at 1150 E. 4th St. and on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 12:30 p.m. at 2800 N. Studebaker Rd. There are seven shows and six different locations total. Gregg Young & the 2nd Street Band will play rock ‘n’ roll, blues, R&B, reggae & “C” or smooth jazz on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 5:30-9:30 p.m. at Corona Ave. & 2nd St. in Belmont Shore, as part of “Stroll & Savor and Dance to the Music.” Featured are Gregg Young (guitar), Kirkwood Coakley (bass), PanMan Ross Harper (steel drum), Casey Jones (drums) and R. Scott (keys). Free admission and the public is invited.
Jammin’ Music & Arts presents “Aladdin” and his mischievous monkey, Alakazam, Princess Jasmine, the evil magician, Jammal, his wicked sister, Halima., three Genies, plus more entertaining characters. Performance dates are Saturday, Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bixby Knolls Church Stage. Singer/songwriter Jessica Byrd announces the completion of a 6-song CD with a release party at DiPiazza’s in Long Beach on August 10. She will perform a 45-minute set including her original songs from the album beginning at 8 p.m. CDs will be available for purchase that evening or from her website, or you can download the album from iTunes or Amazon’s MP3 store. The Queen Mary announces that The Expendables and Fishbone will be joining the artistic lineup at the 3rd annual Shoreline Jam festival on Saturday, Aug. 31, at the waterfront park in front of the historic ship. Pepper will headline the festival followed by top reggae, world, rock and pop artists including The Expendables, Fishbone, Clear Conscience, Ethan Tucker and more special guest artists. The Long Beach QFilm Festival will take place Sept. 6-8 at the historic Art Theatre located at 2025 East 4th St. and the neighboring Center Long Beach, both on Long Beach’s renowned “Retro Row.” Submissions for this 20th anniversary year’s fest are now closed but will be accepted beginning in October for the 2014 festival via www.withoutabox.com. Passes and tickets will be available for purchase beginning August 12th through the QFilm Festival page at www.qfilmslongbeach.com.
Looking for a few extra laughs? The Long Beach Playhouse presents “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades,” a long form improv show directed by Darren Held. The show begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 16 located at 5021 E. Anaheim Street. This hilarious and interactive set is brought to the theatre by the local improv group, Held2Gether.
