The Lakewood Village area in Long Beach between Viking Way, Norse Way and Lakewood Boulevard needs to dismantle the dangerous artificial palm tree sidewalk decorations. I hit my left shoulder on one as I was attempting to cross the street near the mailbox on Norse Way. One of the metal fronds punctured my clavicle area and I couldn’t sleep the night of June 11. I had to call the airlines to cancel my scheduled flight to Boston for the morning of June 12.
I then went to see a physician and was given several x-rays after the doctor noticed puffiness and a large red mark on my shoulder. Fortunately, it turned out to be only a severe bruise with no tissue damage. However, I lost the money I had paid for my non-refundable ticket.
These sidewalk ornaments which serve no useful purpose are a hazard to skateboarders, loose toddlers and elderly pedestrians with poor eyesight.
