Tour Cancer Pavilion
Join Long Beach Memorial as they open the doors to the-new Todd Cancer Pavilion for a special sneak peek inside on Saturday, June 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The new 65,000-square foot Pavilion at 2810 Long Beach Blvd. will house the many outpatient cancer and support care programs that the Todd Cancer Institute (TCI) offers, giving patients access to all they need under one roof.
Be among the first to see inside before it officially opens later in July and hear from cancer experts. The event will feature cancer education and awareness booths and pavilion tours. Light refreshments will be served to those in attendance. The first 200 visitors will receive a free Todd Cancer Pavilion T-shirt.
Meals on Wheels of Long Beach and Rock for Vets are sponsoring this June 29 event at the The Scottish Rite “Ernest Borgnine Theater,” 855 Elm Street, with proceeds helping to feed homebound Long Beach veterans. Doors open at noon; the variety show and concert are 2-5 p.m. at $25 per person.
Live musical performances by the ‘Rock for Vets’ Music Educational Band, Freddie Davis Jr. (performed with The Drifters, The Platters and Hank Ballard’s The Midnighters), Long Beach’s own Boxcar 7, The Windy Ridge Bluegrass Band, the Pin-up Doll Platoon, plus Sean “Elvis” Martin. Numerous raffle items, a silent auction and Gourmet Food Trucks with the Long Beach Derby Gals as hostesses (kicks off at 12 noon). July 4 Late Night/BBQ
Celebrate Independence Day with red, white and blue fish at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Families will be able to witness the ambiance of the Aquarium at night and get a fish-eye view of the City of Long Beach fireworks display. Wave the flag, watch the fireworks and enjoy some freshly grilled BBQ. You’ll also be able to journey inside the Aquarium to see wonders of the sea.
Cost is $14.95 per person and free for kids ages 3 and under. BBQ-admission combo cost is $42 per adult and $32 per child.

Harbor Breeze Cruises offers the best fireworks viewing on the Bay. Two fireworks shows this year: July 3 and 4. Harbor Breeze has offered this cruise annually for over 15 years. Journeys Through Grief
Join the spiritual care team at Long Beach Memorial for “Journeys Through Grief,” a focused, short-term group that provides support for adults that are grieving the death of an adult loved one.

Community members can discover why people have been enchanted by the art of origami—Japanese paper folding—for centuries as the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) hosts its annual Origami Festival on Sunday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Guests will have hands-on experience creating a three dimensional object from a single sheet of paper. More than 40 experts from local and national origami clubs will teach a variety of different folds for people of all experience levels including animals, geometric forms and moveable origami.
Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $8 for Japanese Garden members, $7 for children ages 4-12 and free for ages 3 and under. Prices include origami paper.
