Pedestrian Dies in 7th St/Pepper Tree Accident

On Friday, January 25, at approximately 6:58 p.m., Long Beach Police responded to a traffic collision near the intersection of 7th Street and Pepper Tree Lane, which resulted in the death of an adult male pedestrian.
Upon arrival Officers discovered a man lying in the roadway who had sustained injuries. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Further investigation revealed the pedestrian was walking west on the south sidewalk of 7th Street west of Pepper Tree Lane when he stepped off the curb and into the number three lane of eastbound traffic of 7th Street.
He was struck by a 2013 Range Rover driven by a 62-year-old resident of Long Beach. Detectives determined the driver of the Range Rover did not have enough time to stop prior to colliding with the pedestrian. He stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The victim, is only being identified at this time as a 59-year-old resident of San Pedro pending notification of next of kin.
