From Issue: Volume XXI - Number 1
In less than 24 hours a second major traffic accident in East Long Beach was fatal to a 50-year-old female bicyclist from Long Beach who was transported to an area hospital in serious condition, according to police spokesman Sgt. David Marander. Later Tuesday evening Susan Curtis died at a local hospital.
The 7:17 p.m. accident at Bellflower Blvd and Atherton St. involved a green Honda Van driven south bound on Bellflower by a 19-year-old Los Alamitos resident in route to a job interview, who told his mother that he had a green light and that the female biker was crossing Bellflower westbound against the traffic signal.
Police closed the intersection for several hours while accident investigators looked into the circumstances.
Earlier Tuesday a 27-year-old Stanton man, Trevor Stevens, lost his life when his 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse convertible side swiped another car northbound on PCH at Anaheim and plowed into a concrete building sign at 5150 E. Pacific Coast Hwy.
