From Issue: Volume XX - Number 26
12/29/2012

By LBPD Media Relations Detail

On Saturday, December 29, 2012, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Long Beach Police Officers were dispatched to the 6800 block of Beechley Avenue regarding gunshots heard.

An officer arrived on-scene and saw several subjects in front of a residence. As the officer made contact with the group, one subject pulled out a firearm and an officer involved shooting occurred. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect, who is a minor for a few more days and therefore will not be identified, was involved in a confrontation with several people at a residence according to witnesses. During the confrontation, and prior to police arriving, the suspect fired off several rounds from a handgun. This caused a nearby resident to call the police.

After the officer involved shooting occurred, the suspect was transported to a local hospital where he received treatment for a minor wound and was released to police custody. The minor is being booked for assault with a deadly weapon against one of the residents and exhibiting a firearm in the presence of a police officer.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation of the shooting, as they do with all officer involved shootings that occur in Los Angeles County that result in injury or death.
