Long Beach Rescue Mission CEO Announces Resignation

From Issue: Volume XX - Number 26

James Lewis has resigned as president and chief executive officer of the Long Beach Rescue Mission (LBRM), effective December 31, 2012, according to a news release from the organization. Current Associate Director Robert Probst has been appointed interim chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2013.

“It was a really difficult and heart-wrenching decision,” Lewis said. “I care deeply for this ministry, but realize that I am merely a temporary steward. LBRM has experienced growth and successful program expansion, and is positioned for even more much-needed growth, but I feel this is an appropriate time for a change of leadership.” Lewis is the third chief executive in the Mission’s 40-year history.

Lewis developed an unprecedented visibility of the program to the community and established a vision for the LB Mission.

The board of directors thanked Lewis for his contributions to LBRM. A consultant is working with the staff while the board conducts a search for a new chief executive. They look forward to recruiting an experienced executive who can continue to drive the growth of the mission and to enable it to achieve the goal of helping the homeless and changing lives.

Started in 1972, LBRM is a Christian social service center for the homeless and needy in the greater Long Beach area. The mission provides food, clothing, shelter and spiritual guidance to men, women and children. Senior citizens and neighborhood families also come for meals or to attend chapel services in the evenings and on Sundays. The mission seeks to help end the cycle of homelessness and equip people in transforming their lives.
