Kids Classes Offered

Enrich your child’s world with fun, excitement, and learning, with these new adaptive recreation classes from Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine.

Kindermusik with Candace #1 Our Kind Of Day: Music time isn’t just at music class, it’s all day long! At each lesson, parents are given ideas for creativity and insights into their child’s development. Parenting becomes easier & a lot more fun! Lessons are packed with singing, listening, story time, play, creative movement, instrument play, family jams, and sharing. Students must have an accompanying adult/family member or care provider. This six-week course is for ages 1 month to 7 years, and is only $55 per participant. It will take place Fridays 12 p.m. or 3-4 p.m. at Stearns Champions Park, with two available sessions: December 7 to January 25, or February 1 to March 8. There is a $45 material fee to be paid in class (cash only).

Kindermusik with Candace #2 Here, There and Everywhere: The five sub-themes center around different family outings: visit friend, the park, the city, the aquarium, and the farm. ART Orchestra is designed to give students an opportunity to get ‘inside’ classical music. Students will incorporate melody, rhythm and movement and put them together to create an original composition based on their interpretation of the “Berceuse” from the Firebird Orchestral Suite written by Igor Stravinsky. This twelve-week course is for children ages 8 to 12, and is only $90 per participant. The course will take place Mondays 3-4 p.m. or 4-5 p.m. at Whaley Park, with two available sessions: December 3 to January 21, or January 28 to March 4. There is a $25 material fee to be paid in class (cash only).

ArtBeat for Humanity Drum Painting The first day of class will be an Artbeat Drum Circle and is free to interested students, to experience the class. ArtBeat for Humanity provides the opportunity for artists with disabilities a chance to utilize the drum as a canvas for creative expression. Drum heads will be transformed into circular art forms know as mandalas. Self-expression will be explored through bright colors, shape and symbols that represent the artist in you. This six-week course is for youth ages 13 to 17, and is $90 per participant with a $60 material fee to be paid in class (cash only). The course will take place Wednesdays 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Whaley Park, with two available sessions: December 5 to January 23, or January 30 to March 6.
