Marchelle Hammack Tosdal, born September 25, 1951, to Ralph and Virginia Hammack in Riverside, California was the eldest of 3 sisters. An avid reader throughout her life, Marchelle thought of life as an adventure; and she lived it accordingly.
The epitome of the “California Girl” – beautiful, sunshine soaked, freewheeling, living for the moment, open to new and unconventional ideas, fearless and literate.
Marchelle’s sense of adventure led her to many occupations including writer, soap opera television actor, English teacher, comedian, Beachcomber Arts and Entertainment columnist, belly dancer and mother. Song was in her soul which led her throughout Southern California and overseas as a singer.
Financing her own college education, Marchelle first attended UC Irvine and later graduated from Occidental College. She later attended USC where she received a Masters Degree in Professional Writing.
A true master of the written word, Marchelle was renowned for her expertise at the Scrabble board as well as her ability to move mountains through poetry and prose.
Marchelle married John Tosdal on October 14, 1989 at the Park Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles where they met. Their daughter Sedona Tosdal is now an intelligent and thriving student at UC Santa Barbara.
Marchelle passed on to her next journey on October 17, 2012 and is survived by her husband John, daughter Sedona, and the many others she touched. Now free as a bird, she is now able to grace those in the next world much as she did many of us in this world. God bless Marchelle.
A celebration of the life of Marchelle will be held during the first weekend of November at the Tosdal home. RSVP (562) 673-8132 if you would like to attend.
