From Issue: Volume XX - Number 21 10/19/2012
Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery in Long Beach announces its reopening on Oct. 15 following an extensive remodel. The restaurant will also join Rock Bottom locations nationwide in rolling out a new menu.
Located at One Pine Ave. in Long Beach and originally opened in June 1997, Rock Bottom closed for three weeks to complete the renovation. To capitalize on outdoor dining all year, the restaurant added a new 44-seat outdoor patio, and the bar area was expanded to offer more community seating with the bar opening onto the newly remodeled outdoor beer garden area.
With the new patio and dining room additions, Rock Bottom increased seating by 20 percent. Diners will also experience enhanced views of the brewery where Rock Bottom’s award-winning beers are crafted, as well as a newly open kitchen and service line.
A new feature of the dining room is a series of vibrant, hand-painted graphics of Rock Bottom’s famous brews. The restaurant offers an enhanced audio/visual setup with 15 widescreen TVs and an upgraded sound system as well as new seating throughout all dining areas. The Charlotte, N.C., Rock Bottom location experienced a similar refresh in mid-2012.
Several special events are planned during the coming weeks to showcase the restaurant’s new look. Oct. 23 is the Patio Firkin Party hosted in the newly remodeled outdoor beer garden, a Light Lager tasting will take place on Oct. 30 and the Scottish Tartan Ale tapping party celebrates the seasonal beer on Nov. 6.
In addition to a refreshed look, the Long Beach location will reopen with a new menu which is currently being rolled out at all Rock Bottom restaurants nationwide. The new menu features an update of Rock Bottom’s classic favorites plus new items with a Southwest influence and a revamped cocktail menu. The burger section of the menu offers more non-beef varieties, and the favorite mac n’ cheese entrée is now available with blackened shrimp and bacon chicken options. To infuse a Southwest flair, Rock Bottom added Street Tacos, Made-to-Order Guacamole and Lobster & Shrimp Enchiladas. To complement its brewed in-house beer selection, the drink menu now offers more classic cocktails to showcase variety.
The 10,516 square-foot Rock Bottom location in Long Beach seats 449 guests and features a 72 seat private dining room. Brewmaster Hayley Shine oversees the brewing of Rock Bottom’s handcrafted beers which have received several accolades including the Gold Award at the 2010 World Beer Cup and the Silver Medal at the 2009 Great American Beer Festival. James Maresca is the restaurant’s General Manager, and Sal Chavez is the Executive Chef. The Long Beach location employs more than 100 team members.
