Zagat Guide, touted as the “burgundy bible” and trusted source for consumer-generated information, announced the results of its 2013 Los Angeles Restaurants Survey naming Michael’s On Naples the Best Italian Restaurant in all of Los Angeles. In addition, Michael’s Pizzeria was named Best Pizza, earning a 28 out of 30 food rating. Both are owned by Michael Dene. The Zagat survey covered nearly 2,100 restaurants in Southern California with more than 18,000 diners casting their votes.
The 49rs Tavern will be celebrating Halloween and their 54th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 5-8 p.m. Doug Drummond, former Long Beach councilmember and vice mayor will guest bartend while Jeff Severson, the singing cowboy and former Ram, will play and sing country western music with his “Singing Safetys.” There will be a costume contest for best and worst costume, a raffle for door prizes and specials on all food and drink. Charter College announced that the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) is available to unemployed Veterans interested in retraining in vocational certificate programs. Charter College, Long Beach offers accelerated certificate programs to those looking for careers in health care, business and the legal field. The VRAP program is available to unemployed veterans between 35 and 60 years old that are not eligible for any other VA education benefit program. Go to www.chartercollege.edu for more information.
The Petersen Automotive Museum is looking for volunteers. The museum is seeking enthusiastic, energetic, and motivated individuals to support the museum in a variety of ways. They are looking for volunteer docents to lead school and group tours as well as visitor service volunteers to help museum guests in the lobby and in the galleries. The Rossmoor/ Los Alamitos Republican Women candidates’ and propositions forum and will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, at 10:15 a.m. at the Farmers and Merchants Bank on Seal Beach Blvd. Those candidates that will be attending are: Dean Grose (LosAl City Council), Troy Edgar (Assembly District 72), Jay Sondhi (Cypress City Council), Chris Barnes (La Palma City Council), Carolyn Sylvia (Rossmoor/LosAl Area Sewer District), Rob Johnson (Cypress City Council) and Gary DeLong (US Congress – 47th District).
