Long Beach’s six Senior Centers are where active, vital older adults gather to socialize, receive services and participate in activities that enhance their dignity, support their independence and encourage their involvement in the community. Centers are located at: Cesar E. Chavez, El Dorado, Houghton, McBride, and Silverado Parks and the Senior center on 4th Street. These Centers promote self-sufficiency, self-fulfillment and a positive outlook by offering an integrated array of recreation, education, advocacy, health, nutrition, and other social services. SCAN Health Plan, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plans, is marking its 35th anniversary by offering 35 tips for healthy aging. Memorial Medical Center invites women to join them on Wednesdays 4-6 p.m. in October for “Breast Happy Hours,” with complimentary five-minute head/neck massages, refreshments, light appetizers and daily giveaways. Those who come in to the Annex Medical Building, 701 E. 28th St., for a mammogram during the month of October will have a chance to win prizes — from spa robes to gift certificates.
