Straight Talk
Candidates competing to represent the newly-drawn 47th Congressional District will be the guests on this week’s edition of Straight Talk, the first show of the 21st Anniversary season. Republican Gary DeLong and Democrat Alan Lowenthal will join host Art Levine for a joint appearance to discuss the issues affecting the district and the country, including the economy and jobs, the environment and foreign policy.
This edition of Straight Talk airs in Long Beach and 40 surrounding cities on Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on LBTV Channel 3 and FiOS 21, and at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Charter Channel 101.
Swim Across America
MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute (TCI) at Long Beach Memorial has partnered with Swim Across America (SAA) for the inaugural open water fundraising swim on Sept. 23 to provides access to the newest clinical trials through education, detection, prevention and treatment to patients and their families.
Swim Across America is a national non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming-related events. The inaugural Long Beach open water swim will be held in the rowing basin at Marine Stadium.

Survivor Event
Smile the Spa is hosting a survivor-style event at the beach on Sunday, Sept. 23. Eight groups of five will compete to win $500 cash for a charity of your choice. You can be a participant or donate goods for contestants. Info: drterra@smilethespa.com.
Rotaract Mixer
Rotaract Long Beach is planning a networking mixer on Sept. 26 at La Creperie, 130 Pine Ave. 7-9 p.m. As part of Rotary International, Rotaract is devoted to developing professional leaders and community engaged young people in their 20s.
They engage in community projects a few times a month, hear from motivating and inspiring guest speakers at meetings and plan various networking and social events to build connection and collaboration.

Casino Night
Operation Jump Start invites the Long Beach community to place their bets on the success of local students at the first-ever Diamond & Hearts casino night 7-11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 at the Long Beach Marketplace. Festivities include classic Vegas style poker and blackjack as well as a “Taste of the Marketplace” and hosted bar.
Guests will also be invited to ante up at a silent auction featuring exclusive prizes such as a VIP package to the Long Beach Grand Prix and tickets to see the USC Trojan football team compete live.
Diamond & Hearts tickets are $75 per person and are on sale now at www.operationjumpstart.org. All proceeds help fund OJS’ unique community-based mentoring programs, serving over 120 Long Beach students each year.
Calling Cheerleaders
The cheerleaders at Wilson Classical High School invite you to come out and be a Wilson “youth” cheerleader! Boys and girls grades 3-8 have the opportunity to come learn exciting new cheers from the Wilson cheerleaders at two cheer clinics (Sat. Oct. 6, 9:30-noon; Thurs. Oct. 11, 4-5:30 p.m.) then perform them during the first-half of a WCHS Varsity Football Game on Friday, Oct. 12.
