Local Firm Receives National Award 7 Years Running

From Issue: Volume XX - Number 19
9/21/2012

Long Beach Certified Public Accounting firm, Holthouse Carlin & Van Trigt LLP (“HCVT”), is proud to announce that it has again been named to INSIDE Public Accounting’s “Best of the Best Firms” list for 2012. This is the seventh consecutive year that HCVT has earned this prestigious national honor.

INSIDE Public Accounting’s (IPA) annual Best of the Best recognition honors 50 firms (25 in prior years) for their overall stellar performance on more than 50 criteria. This year, more than 430 firms participated in the 22nd annual IPA Annual Survey and Analysis of Firms.

Best of the Best firms demonstrate long-term consistency and exceptional performance, regardless of outside factors. Many firms, like HCVT, have been here before. Of the 50 firms named to the list this year, 29 were among the Best of the Best last year, 22 were on the list in 2010 and HCVT has been on the list for an unprecedented seven years in a row. In any economy – up or down – clues for what to do, where to focus and how to practice can be found in the firms on the Best of the Best list.

The IPA 2012 Best of the Best firms stand out as well-managed and well-executed examples of how to succeed. Best of the Best firms come in all sizes and are geographically dispersed. The largest firm to make the cut had $401.8 million in annual revenues and the smallest, had $5.3 million. Despite the economy, these firms turned in solid results.

“Best of the Best firms represent the top firms in the nation. Each firm demonstrates the right combination of vision, planning and execution to deliver superior performance,” says Michael Platt, principal of the Platt Group and publisher of the accounting trade publication, INSIDE Public Accounting. “Firms that earn this designation represent the best of what the accounting profession has to offer,” Platt says.

“The success of these firms is a tribute to their leadership and staff. Their performance defies economic trends by capturing the long-term goals that are needed in order to sustain growth and client service through both prosperous times and down times,” says Kelly Platt, publisher of INSIDE Public Accounting. “We salute all of these firms and recognize their overall management strategies as models that the profession can be quite proud of,” Platt concludes.

HCVT is a full-service CPA firm established in December 1991 and, in its 20 years, has grown to 31 partners and a total professional and administrative staff of over 280. With $67.1 million of annual revenues in calendar 2011, HCVT is ranked as the largest CPA firm headquartered in Southern California and a Top 50 largest firm in the U.S.
Managing Partner, Phil Holthouse, attributes HCVT’s Best of the Best ranking and continuing success to a “focus on effectively applying decades of industry and technical knowledge in a highly customized manner – one client at a time. We also emphasize throughout the firm: client service, training, quality control and constant improvement through best practices. Our pro-active approach, client service team relationships and creative solutions differentiates HCVT from both the Big 4 and other CPA firms.”

HCVT’s unique structure of seven Southern California offices offers clients, employees and other professional service providers the opportunity to work together with maximum geographic flexibility. Holthouse observes that: “Our multi-office business model allows HCVT to attract and retain top-quality clients, partners and staff, while delivering high-value tax, attest and consulting services to a wide variety of industries and high-net-worth individuals.”

HCVT also has a number of specialty services including Business Management/Multi-Family Office Services focused on entertainment and high net-worth family operations, Financial Advisory/Mergers & Acquisitions, 401(k)/Qualified Plan Audits,

Incentive Tax Credits (including green incentives) and a rapidly expanding International Tax Practice. The deep technical skills and years of experience within HCVT’s partner group allows them to effectively service clients operating in the vast majority of countries and industries.

Most of the HCVT Partners have extensive Big 4 experience and are active in their business, alumni and home communities and enjoy providing growth opportunities for their clients, staff and students.

With double digit revenue growth in 2011, as well as year-to-date 2012, and the ability to attract larger local, national and international clients with expanding accounting and tax needs in a variety of industries, HCVT is well positioned for continued successful growth and hiring.

The firm provides accounting, attest, tax, merger and acquisition, business management and financial consulting services to large, owner-managed businesses, high-net-worth individuals, estates, trusts and qualified retirement plans. HCVT has seven offices in Southern California for the convenience of their clients and employees. Office locations include: Camarillo, Encino, Long Beach, Orange County, Pasadena, West Los Angeles and Westlake Village.

HCVT is also an independent firm associated with the North American region of Moore Stephens, an international association with more than 360 independent accounting and consulting firms throughout the United States and the World. Moore Stephens global reach of associated firms provides HCVT clients access to a wide range of specialists, yet local enough to deliver a high level of personal service.
