Robbins 'Full of It'
From Issue: Volume XX - Number 12 6/16/2012

As usual, Les Robbins is full of it. According to Cityrating.com, crime has decreased in Long Beach for the last 11 years that the rating system reports. In all of LA County, crime is the lowest in 65 years, and they have been cutting hundreds of millions in municipal budgets. His insinuation that the smaller city budget equals more crime is a load of bull, as if calling the police or fire department may result in no one showing up. Just yesterday, I saw one vehicle on Willow pulled over with 5 police units hanging around. A couple of days ago, I was at Home Depot on Spring St. and witnessed full force fire and ambulance presence for a parking lot fender bender. His fear mongering might serve him well if he was running for office again and that’s about it. That’s how liberals get attention. Scare people with lies and rumors. Make everything a “crisis”. As usual, Les Robbins offers zero solutions in his column. He probably wants to raise taxes, the stock remedy in the liberal democrat mindset. Look at Sacramento. It’s filled with liberal democrats, and they are still trying to raise your taxes. The city needs to get out of recreation activities, senior programs, events, health dept issues and many so-called services that can be provided by the citizen organizations in Long Beach without using taxpayer money. Many of the city’s social programs are overlaps of state and county services. How did we ever get by decades ago when the city was not trying to be everything to everybody? The citizens put together sports leagues, senior programs, outreach for the poor, etc., and they didn’t need taxpayer money to do it. I had to read Les Robbins column twice to catch all the over dramatic, doomsday nonsense. Because he’s not on the city council anymore, he loves to slam Long Beach city government. Is it ever not about him? Does he ever back his columns with factual information? No. Robert Van der Upwich
