2200 block of Chestnut Ave. At 9:40 a.m., reporter Kirt Ramirez was taking his elderly friend for a walk in her wheelchair when he saw a sign warning of nesting hawks in the area. He began to take a picture of the sign, when the hawk decided to prove the warning correct by twice “dive bombing” Ramirez. He was later told the hawks had been on TV and in press reports, which he admitted he completely missed, as did the hawk. A resident told him about 50 people have been so attacked and 25 injured and on the previous day, a shirtless man was scratched on the back by the attacking hawk. The next day, Ramirez’s publisher brought him back for a confirming photo with Ramirez ducking the swooping hawk, which showed no interest in attacking the publisher.
