Candidates Forum

Rogers Middle School (365 Monrovia Ave.) will host a candidates forum for councilmember of the 3rd District.

The forum will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Mar. 18. Meet the candidates and submit your written questions at this forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters, BSRA and Belmont Heights Community Association.

Free Fitness Classes

The outdoor fitness organization South Bay Fit Camp is offering free classes at Recreation Park and Whaley Park on Mar. 13 and 15.

The classes are offered at various times over the course of the two days, and are free to the public. The schedule is available at www.SouthBayFitCamp.com/calendar.

Dockwalker Training

The Boating Clean & Green Program will host a “Dockwalker” training on Mar. 27 for those who want to promote environmentally-sound boating throughout California’s marina communities.
Dockwalkers will be trained to engage the public and the boating community in adopting clean boating practices.
Training is free and will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Shoreline Yacht Club, 386 Shoreline Drive South.

Art Fundraiser

Picture This Gallery is hosting a benefit art exhibit for the months of March and April for the disasters in Haiti and Chili.
50% of all proceeds will go directly to The Red Cross in efforts to help in the relief efforts.

Native American Festival

Raindance, a Native American experience in downtown Long Beach, and Shoreline Village have organized the first annual Native American Festival.

The event will feature live Native American music and traditional dances, storytelling, face painting, basket making and even learn to make your own dream catcher.

Surfrider Contest

The Long Beach Surfrider Foundation, a chapter of the global Surfrider Foundation is set to launch its first Art Theater/YouTube video contest.

The public is invited to create short movies (three to ten minutes) or one-minute Public Service Announcement-style video segments to promote a vision of Sinking the Breakwater and returning waves and a healthy beach to the shores of Long Beach.

Submissions for this year’s contest can be made from May 1 to 31. For more info on the Breakwater Video Contest go to www.lbsurfrider.org.

Equinox Campfire

Here's another opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature during the Spring Equinox Campfire. On Saturday, Mar. 20 from 7-9 p.m., enjoy a celebration for the return of the spring season at El Dorado Nature Center.
